City Lumber Co. was purchased by Melvin Faircloth (LAT Lumberman of the Year 2010-2011) in 1969. During this year, Melvin Faircloth purchased the lumberyard after it was burned to the ground as a distraction during a store robbery. He worked diligently with his family to get the lumberyard back in working order, and the lumber yard has been thriving ever since.
Melvin now co-owns the lumberyard with two of his sons, Auddie and Scotty Faircloth. Throughout the years, many family members have worked at the lumberyard. City Lumber Co. has become a local landmark in Abilene, TX due to their history and customer loyalty.
